There are currently two associations to which developers are aligned – India’s Confederation of Associations of Real Estate Developers (CREDAI) and the National Council for the Development of Immobilities (NAREDCO). Credai has done a lot of good work to encourage developers to sign the pledge to ethical ethics and to build a standard framework to adopt. However, there is no mandatory code that can be enforced in the event of a developer not being a member of either association or even not adhering to the rules. Consumers need to resort to consumer courts and the legal machinery in such cases.
